What We Do

We offer a full spectrum of accounting services to Louisville's small businesses. Some business owners come to us with a shoebox full of receipts and minds full of anxiety and fear. If this is you, we can help you sort that out.  

Some businesses rely on us as their comptroller. These businesses have an in-house bookkeeper but we serve as a resource for those bookkeepers when they have questions about a particular practice or transaction.

We offer on-site bookkeeping—we come to your office and keep everything up-to-date. If you have employees, we can also help you find the most cost-effective solution for your payroll needs.

Who We Are

The Counting House team is Austin Cooper and Sandy Oppel.

Austin Cooper started Counting House in 1997. Before that, she spent 10 years in private and public accounting and 15 years in arts administration. She has a BA from University of Washington in Seattle, though she was born and raised in Louisville. She has taken graduate-level courses at U of L's Graduate School of Business. 

Sandy Oppel, born and raised in Louisville, began college with the goal of an accounting degree, but became sidetracked with life events and completed the Paralegal Studies program at the University of Louisville. Sandy worked in the legal field for 20 years, specializing in medical malpractice and products liability. Years after the birth of her only child, Sandy combined her long-held goal of being an accountant with her decades of experience in the legal field and began her accounting career as a bookkeeper for a new and fast-growing personal injury firm. After a short stay at a local vending company, Sandy worked for over seven years as the Controller for a large private club. Sandy is an avid sports fan and loves to golf in her spare time. 

Together, Austin and Sandy have diverse and deep experiences across multiple industries that they use to help you understand your business's finances and make good decisions.
